The Sony Blu-ray player is a good one. I wish I would have bought one that could do NetFlicks online.

I think it would be a good idea for Sony to add this feature in one of their software updates.

By Kevin M (South Carolina)
Excellent blu-ray player for a basic model. Easy menu features to fine tune the player. Very good upconversion of my old DVD's. They look nearly as good as the blu-ray discs themselves. Don't like the slow start up but not a big deal, and wish the remote had the eject button it. Just for convenience. Overall would buy it again and would recommend it.

By Denis G. Roussillon (Simpsonville, SC USA)
I shopped this player for about two weeks after seeing it at several major retail stores and found it on Amazon.com for $60. less than any other store. Shipping was super fast (arrived in three days) and I'm in awe of the picture and sound quality. It even does a decent job of up-convertig older DVDs.

 "Great Product" 2009-09-23
By Joshua Hennessey (SLC, Utah)
I bought this as a bedroom player I already had a Sony Blu-ray in the living room. So Sony was my only choice. It is a good price, looks great, great picture quality, is easy to hook up, and is an energy saver product. Sony is one of the best, and you pay for it, even still this player was still 50 - 60 bucks cheaper here then at retail stores.

"The best picture and worth every penny." 2009-01-19
By Eric A. Kemsuzian (Buckeye Centre)
This item can be found for a steep discount(less than 475 usd). The quality and 5 year parts and labor warranty are the advantages of paying more than the minimum to get blue ray tech. Great engineering does not come cheap and Sony is the best engineering value in electronics for my money.

 "Don't make the mistake I did." 2008-11-15
By C. Young
First of all, let me say the video output of the S2000ES is first rate. However, for the price, it should be. It does a great job on both Blu-Ray and standard DVD's. I did, however, have to do a firm-ware update to get it to run some of the new Java menus. It is a slow machine both on boot-up and disc loading. Having said all of this, I still would have given it five stars. Here is the problem.

It does not decode DTS-Master Audio. They give you the impression that it does in the advertisements. The manual is written in such a vague way that you really can't tell what it can decode internally and send out over the analog connectors. Also, what it will send bit-stream over the HDMI connector. I had to call the company and even they had to do some research and get back to me. There is NO EXCUSE for this type of misleading information. When you buy the top of the line, you should get top of the line performance.

 "Good if it works!" 2008-05-08
By John (USA)
The picture quality of this player is outstanding. However, on first purchase it had some distortion in the sound of one channel, wouldn't load discs on occasion, and very slow. We sent it back, got it serviced.

We got the machine back and a couple months later it completely quit working. We returned it again and Sony sent us a refurbished unit. This one is starting to skip now when playing CDs.

Oh Well, Guess we'll try again. It's only a $1300 machine. :)

"Do NOT buy this player ... yet!" 2008-02-01

This Blu-ray player does NOT have the latest surround sound ability (DTS HD Master Audio). As a home theater super-enthusiast, I am going to wait for the next generation from Sony that has the latest surround sound format.

Still a 5-star BR player, but I'm surprised Sony didn't add in the latest surround sound ability!

"Very nice home theater system" 2009-01-12
By X. Le
I got this on sale during the black friday online special for about $250 and loving each use of it. The 3 hdmi ports behind it made it easier for me to switch to each device when my lcd tv port is filled up. Audio is not bad compare to my old one I had since about 15 years ago which still works till now. I get this one if you are not looking for a theater system that does not come with a dvd/bluray player which that part i did not need since I own those already.

It`s a great component for music and video. My concern is that I had to buy a new DVD because the one that I used for years did not have an HDMI output wich is the kind of image that you will need for this home theather.

I have not try the blue ray with this component but the other features (like the quality of sound) are ok.

"Excellent for those new to BD" 2009-09-23
By Lord of the Nazgul (Toronto, Canada)
I already had an HD-DVD player, so I was familiar with the "next-gen" DVDs and their 1080p/24fps qualities.

After the death of the HD-DVD format, I was in the market for a simple BD player. I looked at the Sony PS3, but as I had already invested heavily in my Xbox 360, I could not justify spending even more money on a game console that did not have too much in the way of games that I enjoyed playing.

So, I went ahead and got a BDP-S350. It works as advertised. Great sound, picture and interface (just like the PS3's). The first movie I viewed on it was "Dark Knight" and it was everything I expected.

If you can find this player for under $200 (which is what it seems to be going at nowadays), get it. DVD players used to cost this much, and the improvement is significant over the older media.

As an aside, it is a great upconverter for older discs, so you can still hang on to those...:)

 "not what I expected" 2009-09-13

The player works great but I expected more out of Sony. The does does not have the option for slow motion or frame advancing. Other than that I quite pleased with the picture quality. Sony BDP-S350 1080p

"Mostly happy, but wish it had just one more feature" 2009-09-04
By John S. Harris (Memphis, TN)
Generally I'm very happy with this player. I got it at a good price at Best Buy a few months ago. I don't even have a hi-def TV yet, and I can already see a difference in the picture with Blu-Ray discs on a regular TV.

I purchased the Blu-Ray of "Amadeus", and even when viewed on a regular TV through the BD player it looks FABULOUS!

The remote is easy to navigate with, and the menu screens on the TV (via the player) are neither too complex nor overly-elaborate.

I don't have the player hooked up to an Internet cable yet for all the firmware updates, Blu-Ray Live features, etc, but that's not really my thing anyway. I just want the movies I watch to look cool!

The only drawback I see is that there is no frame-by-frame advance feature. I didn't see anything about that feature on any published or online literature for this model, so I just crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. No luck in that department, I guess.

If you've read a lot of reviews of BD players, you've no doubt heard about various "start-up times", or how long it takes the player to read and start playing a Blu-Ray disc. Yes, it can often be slower than a standard DVD, but it isn't so long as to be a deal-breaker.

Overall, I'm very happy with this player's performance -- even if it doesn't have frame advance. You can REALLY tell the difference between standard DVD and Blu-Ray discs even if you don't have a hi-def TV yet.

Christmas is just around the corner. Think I'll buy me a plasma TV to go along with my S350. Bring some beer and you can come over and we'll watch some Blu-Ray movies! First up -- "Blade Runner" and "The Fall". And when and if "Jaws" ever comes out on Blu-Ray, be advised that I'm taking the phone off the hook when I watch it.

"Great unit for the price" 2009-08-19
By Stephanie Young (Michigan)
There are many reviews listed here that provides the virtues and shortcomings (not too many) of this player, so I will not get into the details. I've been using this unit for a week or so, and it's my first blu-ray player.

It has excellent looks, not too loud, amazing picture and sound. Working Ethernet (firmware updates) and USB ports. (I haven't had to download any firmware or code updates, but I'm sure it'll work fine.)

No fan noise, no noise while playing, but during menu & loading, I hear some track-seeking which is audible at 5 feet. Nothing too unpleasant. A great unit for the price.

Got it for an older friend who was a bit skeptical about the blu-ray technology. After he got it, he noticed a huge difference and is hooked. And if he's hooked, that's good enough for me, since he's a picky kind of guy.
